Edward Syndrome

Edward Syndrome is chromosomal condition also associated with Trisomy 18. There is an extra copy of Chromosome 18 in the cells. It is often characterized with birth defects and low birth weight. Individuals with the disorder suffer from physical deformities, cognitive inability and other life-threatening medical problems.

Medical Conditions
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Prone to bacterial & viral infections
  • Birth deformities (Clubfoot& Facial Clefts)
  • Seizures
Genetic Change
  • Three copies of Chromosome 18 are formed in each cell instead of two copies
  • This can be technically termed as Trisomy 18
  • Chromosome 18 attaches to another part of the chromosome, this results in three copies of genetic material from Chromosome 18
